Here we go, my 1st wordpress blog post – yayyy! – & what better way to start than with a fabulous bag, ay? I thought this would be a much more fun intro than an all about me post (which can be found here if you do want to know more https://fabricah.wordpress.com/about/).
I can’t remember how I came across this AMAZING bag pattern but I did & I am over the moon with the results.
Before I go into more detail here is a picture of me (dont laugh!) ”modelling” (pahaha!) the bag – how much do you wish you had one?? 😉
Well you can 🙂 This pattern was a free tutorial of the Sumer Madras Tote Bag (http://www.noodle-head.com/2011/06/summer-madras-tote-pattern.html) from the blog Noodlehead, which is run by a lady called Anna. Anna’s blog includes a pattern shop as well as an array of bag, wallet & pouch like tutorials – when I get time I really want to try out some more!! – so go check it out.
Below is a close up of the bag to show you the fabric in more detail. I used my fabulous Melody Miller Clocks – thank you to my Fabric Godmother Hayley (fabric godmothering to be explained another time) – for the pocket part & for a little inside pocket the right size for my phone, which wasn’t part of the pattern but something I like in a bag so I don’t have to rummage to find it! I did actually extend the depth of the front pockets as another personal pref & added a magnetic close too. I used dark brown bias binding for the top of the pocket, Crazy Daisy for Benartex for the main body of the bag & I can’t remember the name of the lining fabric – sorry! I substituted the canvas mentioned in the pattern for iron on heavy weight interfacing to give the bag structure, which should be available in your local haberdashery. I really think the fabrics go well together & give it a funky retro twist.
